If you are a parent or caregiver for a youth approach adulthood, this program is for you. Our presenter, Mike Heath, will draw from his knowledge of and passion for providing resources and support for youth aging out of care, as well as his current and past experiences of working with foster youth. Mike’s presentation will include resources available to youth aging out of care, as well as ways for foster parents to assist youth aging out of care. This program will also give you a chance to hear from youth who have aged out. They will share their personal experiences, as well as identify what worked, what didn’t work and what would have been more helpful to them when they transitioned from foster care to independent living.

Mike Heath earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Sociology from the University of Oshkosh and has practiced as a licensed social worker for the past 20 years. He was  was a Youth Counselor at Tomorrows Children, on staff at Wood County Department of Social Services and was the Outreach Director at the Marshfield Area YMCA. Mike was a Youth Employment Counselor at Common Wealth Development in Madison, providing at-risk youth with employment preparation, training, mentoring and job coaching. Mike is currently the Lead Resource Specialist for the Foster Care and Adoption Resources Center. He is also an Advisor on the Wisconsin Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
